Historical Significance
It is believed that the temple was constructed by Lord Krishna’s great-grandson Vajranabh about 2,500 years ago. The temple has been repeatedly refurbished and rebuilt over the centuries due to disasters and invasions. The existing structure is believed to be dated back from the 16th century and showcases Chalukya style of architecture.

Shikhar (Main Spire)
The temple is very tall (approximately 170 feet—51. 8 meters in height) and can be seen from a great distance. The shikhar is topped with an 85-foot-long multi-coloured flag, changed five times a day. Its flag is emblazoned with the sun and moon symbols, meaning Krishna’s kingdom will not come to an end but last as long as these heavenly bodies shine.

Swarga Dwar (Gate to Heaven): for the use of devotees to enter.
Moksha Dwar (Gate to Liberation): In the olden days, one would leave from there after offering prayer
Sanctum Sanctorum
The sanctum enshrines the idol of Lord Dwarkadhish as a four-armed Vishnu idol bearing a conch, Sudershan chakra, lotus, and mace.
Mandapa (Audience Hall)
The pillars and ceilings have detailed microcarvings of scenes from Krishna life and episodes from Hindu scriptures.
Seven Floors
The temple is constructed on seven tiers—the seven significant days of the week in Hindu cosmology.
Religious Importance
It is one of the largest pilgrimage centers for Hindus, especially Vaishnavism followers. Visitors congregate here on special days like Janmashtami (the delivery of Lord Krishna) and Holi. Along with Badrinath, Puri, and Rameshwaram, ،Dwarkadhish is one of the four primary shrines in the Char Dham Yatra.
